Lester Vaughn Williams was born on February 6, 1948, in Boston, MA. He was the only child to be born of the late Gloria D. Williams with Wilbur Harper.
Lester grew up in a Roxbury development once called Albany Street/Orchard Park. He was a member of one of the original families that has contributed to the history of that neighborhood. It was there that he met and established a lifetime relationship with Lorraine. They married on April 26, 1969. Two years later, in 1971, they had a daughter, LaTarsha. They eventually relocated, settling in the South End. There, in 1978, is where they had their son LaVarr.
Education was always important to Lester. In 1965 he graduated from English High School. He then acquired multiple certifications in social work, Mental Health, and other skills that would allow him to help others. He worked at Action for Boston Community Development for a period of time. He also worked for some years at The Youth Service Board for some years. Lester then decided to further his education by attending Cambridge College. In 1988, he successfully earned his master’s in education.
Lester was a people person as those who knew him know. Helping others in their time of need was just his character. Once he started working for the company called Vinfen he found a great way to serve his purpose.
Lester was a unique person with very active ideas. Lester invested years into creating a magazine that would showcase our African American Vets. Lester loved African American culture. He loved music, he loved to sing, he loved sports. He loved his family and friends. His presence will definitely be missed.
Lester was predeceased by his mother Gloria D. Williams (Raymond), aunts Dorothy Hardy, Lois Newson (Howard), Joan Williams, Shirley Williams, uncles John Williams (Deloris), Ralph Williams, Robert Williams and cousins Craig A. Williams and Deniere D. Williams.
Lester leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Lorraine, his daughter LaTarsha L. Andrews (Dexter Andrews), his son LaVarr J. Williams (Barbara Badgett); his grandchildren Asia, Tone, Taaj, Laneyah, Sharieff, Destiny, Shakari and Dexter; cousins Deborah, Karen, Andrea, Pamela and Rekiya; brother in-law John sister in-law Valerie and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews
