Winston Pierce, Sr. Obituary

Winston Raymond Pierce, known to all as “Tiger” was born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 27th, 1929 to Ethel Rainey and Eugene Pierce. Tiger passed away peacefully from this life on Thursday, March 26, 2020.

Tiger was educated in the Boston Public School system and graduated from Boston Trade High School. Lettering in Track and Field, Tiger was considered one of the school’s elite athletes. He joined the Army National Guard and later married his sweetheart Dolores F. Kelly on December 17, 1950.  Tiger and Kitten, as they affectionately called each other, lived in Roxbury, Massachusetts.  Tiger was called into active duty on September 18, 1950 at Camp McCoy, Wisconsin. He was honorably released from active duty as a Corporal in the 272nd Field Artillery Battalion on November 4, 1951.

Tiger worked as a fabric cutter for a clothing manufacturing company when he and Dolores had their first child, Winston Raymond Pierce Jr. This union had their second child, Deborah Jan Pierce. In addition to working as a fabric cutter, Tiger was also the team manager for the company softball league. He later acquired a position as store manager for a retail liquor mart. They purchased their first home in Roxbury and later moved to Dorchester to their second home. In 1970, they had their third child, Vincent Isaac Pierce (VIP).

Tiger began working at Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA) in 1978 and retired in 2002.

Tiger was a devoted and loving husband, father and friend. He was involved in his children’s school activities, sports and interests. Mom and Dad encouraged good study habits and school grades. There was never an excuse not to be respectful and considerate of other people especially toward our elders. Tiger put a smile on everyone’s face; he always made us laugh and often had a joke or two and sometimes a long story with a twist of an ending. His favorite pass time was Red Sox baseball, beer and he enjoyed listening to jazz music. He also loved his chocolates!

Tiger was comforted over the last years by his family, various nurses, care givers, friends and finally by Brush Hill Nursing Center in Milton, Massachusetts. Tiger was preceded in death by his sister Jackie Pierce the first of three siblings and his beloved wife of 67 years, Dolores F. Pierce.

Winston R Pierce (Tiger)is survived by his three children: Raymond, Jr.(Angie) of Raleigh, NC., Deborah and Vincent; brother Lawrence Pierce; grandchildren, Carla Pierce  of Hilton Head, SC and Jeremy Curmon of Greensboro, NC; great grandchildren Victoria and George; brother in-law, Stanley Drinkard (Nellie); host of cousins and many dear friends.
