Wilma Wade was born on the island of Nevis to Vivian Mills and Emanuel Hanley. Wilma met and married the love of her life James Stephan Wade of Montserrat. As the years passed, they migrated from Nevis to Boston, Massachusetts with their nine children. It took them three trips starting in 1968, 1969 and in 1970 before the whole family were together again.
While living in Boston, she attended Beulah Pilgrim Holiness Church. She was a member of the choir and faithfully served her church family. In October 2006, Wilma had a stroke and from 2006- 2020 she was unable to physically attend church services. However, the last service she was a part of was on August 9, 2020, via phone with her church family at Beulah Family Church. Wilma participated in Holy Communion with the visiting ministers from Beulah Pilgrim Holiness Church and Beulah Family Church. During the 14 years of her illness the church members visited and worshipped with her.
Wilma worked at Tufts New England Medical Center as a nurse’s aid from 1970 until her retirement in 1995. Wilma understood what it meant to care for patients with a high level of respect for the patient’s circumstance. She was a good role model of the way nursing care should be, which made her an exemplary patient for almost 15 years as her children cared for her.
Wilma was also an avid member of the community; she was a member of the Massachusetts Chief of Police Association. Wilma was also a member of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and the Medicaid Leadership Circle. Wilma was a great role model for her family, she taught them how to deal with family affairs while still connecting to the community at large.
Wilma is preceded in death by her husband James (Morris) Wade, her daughters Eulie Rose Wade and Imelda Judith DeCosta. She leaves to cherish her memory Sidney and (Vicki Wade) of Utah, Yvonne Wade of Boston, Nulma Wade of North Carolina, Dave Wade of Boston, Wilbert “Lance” and Yvonne Wade of Boston, Steven Wade of Boston, Dayle (Cass) Wade of Boston.
