Walter George Mallette, was born December 13, 1946 to Annie Mae Elston Mallette and Walter Averhart Mallette in Blythdale, Pennsylvania. Loving father of Kimberly Marie Peeples (Leroy Peeples Jr.) and preceded in death by his son Walter Michael Mallette and Granddaughter Chanee Nechelle Mallette. The doting grandfather of Leroy Peeples III, Donte Peeples, Jace Peeples and Great-Grandfather to Leroy Peeples IV.
Walter attended school in Elizabeth Township where he was very popular amongst his classmates and was class president. Walter excelled in sports and academia; he was recruited on a full scholarship to Boston University where he was the first black quarterback to play for the BU Terriers. It was Boston University (1964) where he began undergraduate studies, met many of his lifelong friends, and would join the Sigma Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc and remain active for over 50 years. He was selected to serve as a representative of the Sigma Chapter at the funeral of reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
“Dad” as he was affectionately called by his grandchildren didn’t miss one graduation, birthday party or cookout he would walk across America before he missed anything for his grandchildren. He loved to walk; you would see him often walking around Randolph, Massachusetts even in the winter with his steelers winter hat on.
Walt LOVED his steelers and HATED the patriots with a PASSION! Every Superbowl regardless if the Steelers were playing he would dress up in FULL STEELERS GEAR!!!! His family grew up with Terrible towels and Steelers gear all over the place.
He loved his BBQ and had a love like no other for seafood well FOOD in general. But, one thing everyone will remember and admire is his Gift of Gab, he was a walking encyclopedia he had unending knowledge… the man knew EVERYTHING... there wasn’t one subject you could ask him about and he wouldn’t know something ANYTHING about that subject.
He was the definition of brotherhood to his Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and was so proud to be an ALPHA …he remained very active with the DC and Boston Chapters. Walt’s big bright smile will be remembered by many. He was the true meaning of a friend to many around the world.
