Valerie Monica Stuger of Boston, Massachusetts, passed away on March 22, 2024.
Valerie was born on June 2, 1941, to Joseph Adolphus Welcome and Ursula Catherine St. Clair in Georgetown, Guyana, South America.
Valerie’s early years in Georgetown laid the foundation for her nurturing spirit. It was there she met Lenox Stuger, and their union on December 15, 1960, blossomed into a lifetime of love, shared dreams and aspirations.
The couple’s journey took them to Boston, Massachusetts, in 1970, where they raised their four children, Shaun, Jeremy, Nicola, and Tracy.
A beacon of healing, Valerie’s passion for nursing led her to earn her master’s degree in nursing from the New England Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing. Her career as a registered nurse at both New England Deaconess Hospital and Beth Israel Hospital was marked by her compassionate care for her patients.
Valerie’s commitment and affection extended beyond her family and profession. As a dedicated member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, she lifted her voice in the choir. Her commitment to fellowship meals reflected her belief in the power of community and shared blessings. She was a renowned cook and culinary master steeped in traditional Caribbean dishes.
Traveling was Valerie’s window to the world, with cruises and Caribbean adventures among her best memories. Her favorite trip, a journey to Israel with her Emmanuel family, was a testament to her deep faith and adventurous spirit.
A devoted mother, wife and educator Valerie’s love, laughter, patience and passion for life lives on through her four children, 16 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, each a testament to her boundless love and nurturing soul.
Valerie’s life will be remembered through song, fellowship, and the shared stories of a life beautifully lived.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory and honor of Valerie to Emmanuel Baptist Church's hospitality ministry, continuing Valerie’s legacy of service and love.
