Valerie Smith Obituary
Valerie E. Smith was born in Boston on November 18, 1947, and returned to God on April 9, 2021 in San Francisco where she had lived since 1969. Valerie received a Masters in Non-Profit Administration and then worked at ILWU from which she retired in 2009. Her commitment to ILWU continued as a long-Time board member of its Senior Advisory Group. Valerie will be remembered for being brave, courageous with a keen mind and sharp eye for detail. She had an infectious smile and engaging laugh. She will be sorely missed by her community and friends. Valerie was lovingly cared for by Sarah and Laura during her recent years of illness.
She is survived by her dear brother, Alfred, of Boston and a loving circle of extended family and friends. She is predeceased by her mother, Wilhelmina E. Smith, her father, Frederick E. Smith and her brother Ralph E. Smith.
A service was held in her adopted home of San Francisco on Friday, April 16, 2021 . She will be interred in Boston, alongside her dearly beloved grandmother. Services will be held on Friday, April 23 at Davis Funeral Home, 89 Walnut Avenue, Boston with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. followed by graveside service at 12 noon at Forest Hills Cemetery.
