Thurman Ruth Ragland (we called him “Raggs” & he was also known as “Punkin”) was born in Franklinton, N.C. on May 26, 1948 to the late Inez Pegram (Biological) mom. Inez had six other children, Willie Mae Battle, Brenda Carver, Peggy Dean (Deceased), Larry Pegram, James Pegram, Peter Pegram (Deceased). However, he was raised by the late Elijah & Georgia Ragland of Oxford, N.C. and they had four children, Peggy Smith, Annie Marie Mormon, Anna Gay Ragland, and Luedie (Melvin) Evans.
Thurman attended the North Carolina School System. Later on in life, he met Gloria Wilkerson, married her and then they moved to Boston and had three children, Stephanie Ragland, Thurman Ragland, Jr., and Gregory Ragland (Deceased). Later, as life went on, he married Catherine Hester and they had one daughter, Joyce Ann Ragland.
Thurman was a member of the Armed Forces (Army). He was a truck driver for years, which he loved! And May I add, he could drive a tractor trailer. He also loved cooking and feeding people! My dad also loved to sing, he sang for the Lord for years. And people loved hearing him sing. He was a member of New Hope Granville Baptist Church in Oxford, N.C. Then later in life, he was a member of St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church in Roxbury, MA. Dad lived in Harbor point, where he was certainly loved by so many.
He leaves behind three children, eighteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews and relatives that love him.
He will be greatly missed.
