Sylvia Carrie Washington Harris was born in Everett, MA on September 1, 1932.
She was educated in the Boston Public Schools and graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School in Boston, MA. Sylvia went to work right after her graduation and she loved meeting people. She met the love of her life Edward B. Poindexter they married and had two beautiful daughters Sharon Poindexter and Valerie Alexander. From the two of their children, Sharon had five children - Kevin Poindexter, Kim Poindexter, Dedrea Poindexter Davis , Keith Poindexter and Troy Poindexter. Valerie had three children - Darren Sheridan, Jahmiel Alexander, and Jahvarie Alexander. Sylvia also has thirteen great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren.
Sylvia enjoyed going to work to pay her way in life. She also enjoyed cooking and interior decorating. She was well known for dressing her windows with designer curtains and her famous chicken fricassee. Above all she loved and dedicated her life to her family and God. In her middle years she met the second love of her life, Ralph Harris whom she survived 30 years. Later on Sylvia went to school and was certified as a childcare worker. She raised Kevin until he finished high school and years later she raised her great-grandson, Darren Brimage and Dandre Sheridan while working at Sinai Hospital in Stoughton, MA. Sylvia later retired and resided at her home in Brockton, MA. Accompanied by her loving family and friends she would drive all over Massachusetts well in to her late 80’s.
She is survived by her brother Arthur Washington and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. A special thank you to her great friend Vanessa Harris who was by her side when God called Sylvia to rest, Kim her granddaughter and Conrad for being there helping out.
