Stan was born in Boston, Massachusetts on November 6, 1946, to Mose and Mary Ellen (Hill) Gibson. Stan was raised in a loving family with three beautiful sisters, Imogene, Carolyn, and Elaine.
Raised in Boston, Stan attended UMass Boston majoring in liberal arts and criminal justice. He began his career in housing management in 1966 working with real estate organizations and agencies including Cruz Management Company, Lorenzo Pitts, Inc., Gibraltar Associates, Winn Management, National Corporation for Housing Partnership (NCHP), Boston Housing Authority, Tenant Services, Inc., MassHousing and Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA). He also taught property management workshops and was a former board member at Citizens Housing and Planning Association (CHAPA) and a member of the advisory board at MassHousing.
In 2001, Stan switched career paths and joined the Amtrak Police Department as an Explosive Detection K-9 Police Officer. Being a K-9 handler was his dream job and he excelled. He and his four-legged partners, Ark, Eros, and Baldwin received many accolades and awards before his retirement in 2021.
Stan was an avid sportsman, he played organized and pick-up basketball, and softball for many years. He loved watching westerns, and all sports in person or on television. His love of hunting, fishing, target practice at the firearms range were true highlights of his life.
Regardless of sports, family support was the primary drive for Stan. Stan would attend any event involving his children and grandchildren over his lifetime. He would attend many basketball tournaments for his grandsons. Stan would play with his young grandkids in the backyard of his home. Stan would often take family and friends deep sea or freshwater fishing. Affectionately known as “Stan the Man” due to his calm and cool demeanor, he would give the shirt off his back to anyone in his circle.
Stan loved to host cookouts, especially at his home. Cookouts were always a great hit, which would include K-9 drill demonstrations, old-school music, fresh fried fish, delicious barbecue and many other side dishes prepared by his loving wife Sheila. Laughter, great food, and countless conversations brought love and joy to everyone.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents, Mose and Mary Ellen (Hill) Gibson and sisters Imogene (McCloud) Karawa and Elaine Gibson. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 16 years, Sheila Lesman Gibson, and sister, Carolyn Gibson of Mattapan, MA., his son, Kevin Gibson, Sr., (Danielle) of Riverside, RI. Daughter Nicole Sadler of Dorchester, MA and bonus children Sharon Seidenberg (Roy) of Melrose, MA, Russell Lesman (Fiancée Monica) of Stoughton, MA. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Kevin, Kelani, Deandra, Darien, Daejon, Jameel, Jinzir, Jaleah, Natalia, and Dailen. great-grandchildren: Katileya, Kylie and Kaeson. Nieces, and Nephews, as well as a host of cousins and dear friends, all of whom were a big part of his life.
