Shirley Hall Obituary

Shirley Jean (Berry) Hall was born on June 16, 1938 to the late Eddie C. and Bessie Mae Berry in Blakely, Georgia.  On September 12, 2021 Shirley passed away entering into eternal rest.

Shirley became a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Bluffton, Georgia at an early age.  In 1958 she graduated from Washington High School in Blakely and later migrated to Newark, New Jersey ultimately settling in Boston, Massachusetts.  Shirley would meet James Earl Hall Sr. and marry and from that union they would have five children.
Shirley spent many years working at Polaroid as a lab technician, retiring in 1983.

Shirley had a passion for cooking.  She was best known for her fried chicken, sweet potato pie and banana pudding.  Shirley would eventually take on a new, much greater passion for fishing.  She would leave early in the morning, returning late at night with a bucketful.  When she wasn't fishing, the slot machines were her next favorite pastime.
Shirley's family was the most important part of her life.  She was the ultimate caretaker.  Her home was sometimes referred to as the "HALLiday Inn", as at one time or another nieces, nephews and many others would find comfort in her home.  Of her five grandchildren, Shirley shared a very special bond with one in particular, Jordan.  Having raised him, they spent a great deal of time together, with Jordan being her caretaker in her later years.  He referred to her as his "best friend".

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband James Earl Hall Sr., sister Mary Louise "Big Lou" Wright, brother Eddie C. Berry Jr. and son Phillip Hall.

Shirley leaves to cherish her memory, her children; Niecy Slayman (Ron), Valerie Hall, James Earl "Sonny" Hall (Fran) and Crystal Hall of Georgia; Anthony Gaston; stepchildren Amie Cox and Ronald Hall; siblings Floyd Berry (Muriel), Essie Mae Smith (Clarence) of Georgia, Gloria "Sweetie" Bell (Robert), Maxine McCall and Melvin Berry; grandchildren Lamar Hall (Jennifer), LaToia Alexandre (JB), Quentin Meekins (Stephanie), Jordan Hall (Chitra) and Trevaughn McBrier; six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and loved ones.
A special acknowledgment to Star Stafford for her love and support.
