Shirley Burns Obituary

Shirley Norma Burns was born in Puerto Cortes, Honduras on August 8, 1937 she immigrated to US in the early 60’s. Shirley was a proud Leo that loved announcing it to anyone. She was known for speaking in parables that often baffled her family members. An entrepreneur and businesswoman at heart, Shirley loved to travel and if ever asked “how she was doing?” she would always reply with “she’s not in Hawaii” with a sarcastic smile.  She never judged, but instead took everyone as they were.  She was a resilient woman, that loved singing, music and dancing as she came from a household of musicians.  She enjoyed playing bingo, loved creating arts and crafts, all while being a talented painter.

Shirley was a big jokester – typically the joke would be on you; often leaving her holding her stomach dying from laughter. Very sarcastic and witty with a great sense of humor.  Shirley was a great confidant to many; and a best friend to her children.  She would not have been a good witness though, as she never saw or heard anything according to her, but always saw and heard everything.

Shirley treasured the color green, hence her love for Heineken that she renamed “Green Monster” or “Mineral water”.  Shirley was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother that loved her family and birds.   Shirley leaves behind three children Sharleen Givens, Bernard Burns (Deceased) and Abigail Brissett.  Six grandchildren, Carree, Rasheeda, Yasmeen, Waseem, Anastasia and Lamillian and nine great grandchildren.   Shirley had seven siblings Olga Carr (Deceased), Morris Nembhard (Deceased), Berres Thompson (Deceased) and Samuel Nembhard (aka Quique) (Deceased), Rudolph Nembhard (Deceased), Alice Gordon and Lillian Lowe.  She also had a  unique relationship with her cousin, Rita Maximo, as they were two peas in a pod.

Shirley is loved by many and will be missed by all.
