Obituary

Walters, Ruby Viola (Folkes), of Peabody, June 8, 2013, at age 89, after a long illness. She was a resident of Bedford for 35 years. Ruby immigrated at the age of 12 to the United States to be with her mother and brother who had become citizens several years earlier. She grew up in the South End of Boston and graduated from Girls High School. She raised her children while working part-time and retired from a long full-time career in the Alumni Records Department of Harvard University. Ruby was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Bedford where she served on the altar guild, arranging flowers for Sunday Service and attending every Sunday for over 30 years. She was a supporter of the Bedford Council on Aging, where she followed another of her many creative interests by learning calligraphy and watercolor painting. She was an extraordinary gardener, continuing to garden into her mid-80's, and amazing in the kitchen. She loved to walk and exercise, play Mah-jongg, pool, solve crossword puzzles, socialize and travel. She is the wife of Francis E. Walters of Peabody; mother of Dianne and Gregory Walters and grandmother of Lawrence Jaja Walters-Smith.
