Richard E. Sutton was born in Wilson County, North Carolina on June 28, 1944. He was the fifth of eleven surviving children born to the late Leamon and Jessie Mae Sutton. Richie, as he was affectionately known to his family, fell asleep in the Lord after an extended battle with cancer and kidney disease on July 30, 2018.
Richie lived his life with passion. He was a very strong-willed individual. He attempted to live life by his own rules and was tenacious by nature. Richard was a total foodie. He loved to cook, and he loved to eat. When he loved he loved hard. He could be your strongest supporter or your most worthy opponent.
Richie graduated from Boston Trade High School. He was a Vietnam era veteran. Richie was enlisted into the army and served in Germany. Upon completing his service, he returned to Boston and became a contractor. He married Eddie Mae West and from their union they were blessed with four sons and a daughter. He is preceded in death by his fifth son, Leamon Sutton.
During his illness, God ministered to him through those that cared for him. Through his caretakers he was able to see and feel the love of God. Richie defied all odds, despite his illnesses and partial paralysis, he outlived his life expectancy by over a decade.
Richard leaves to cherish his memory his children: Anthony Sutton, John Sutton, Anita Sutton, Richard Sutton, Jr., and Tyrone Sutton; grandchildren: Marquis Parham, and Shemar Cornelius; siblings: Flora Trotman, Bernice Walker, Yvonne Traylor, and Steven Sutton; as well as a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
