Richard T. Smith passed away peacefully on November 19, 2020 after a long battle with cancer. He was a loving father, grandfather, uncle and brother. He is survived by his son Hassan Smith of Georgia, his daughter Nadia Smith of California, sisters F. Lee McKnight-McQuilla, Frankie Walker, Rev.Dr. Barbara Smith and Evelyn Smith and his brother James M. Smith, Jr. as well as grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
He was President and CEO of the National Youth Development Council where he mentored youth, developed programs and advocated for young people. He was also a Viet Nam war veteran where he received a purple heart medal for bravery.
He shall be greatly missed.
