Ramsay G McDonald

Ramsey George McDonald was born on February 27th 1940, in Flint River, St. Mary, Jamaica. He was the 5th of 6 children born to Mary Wallace and Earnest McDonald.

Ramsey grew up in the rural district of Industry and attended Beecham Hill Elementary School where he received a full education. After leaving school his career of choice was nursing. When he completed his nurse training, he gained employment as a psychiatric nurse at Belleview psychiatric hospital in Kingston, Jamaica.

In 1968 Ramsey emigrated to the USA where he continued in his chosen career by working as an LPN and later a psychiatric nurse for the Department of Health, Boston, Massachusetts.

After a long period of illness Ramsey retired from full time nursing and gained part time employment at Roscommon Nursing Home in Mattapan where he achieved an award for outstanding performance in his work. Ramsey was a conscientious worker who was much respected by his professional peers. His nephew described him as an ambitious person who was also quietly spoken, kind and thoughtful.

Throughout his latter years Ramsey’s health began to fail him. He was beset with continuous illnesses. Despite this, he continued to have a positive outlook and lived life the best way he could.

Ramsey was admitted to hospital in December 2020 after a period of ill health. He departed this life on December 31st 2020 at 4.15 am. He will be missed by all.

Ramsey will be remembered as a loving brother and fantastic uncle whose quiet wisdom will be missed. To his friends and colleagues, their memory will always be of a dependable, honest and trustworthy man, the sort of person you can rely on when you need to.

Ramsey is survived by his two sisters Pearly and Roselyn and his brother Lothie, also many nieces and nephews. His illness may have taken him from us but it will never rob us of his memory.
