Oliver Lee Byron, son of the late Margaret and Julius Byron, was born on October 13, 1946 in Raleigh, NC. As a child he attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Dorchester High School in 1965. Following graduation, Oliver enlisted in the United States Navy serving on the USS Gearing in the Mediterranean for several years. After serving in the Navy, Oliver attended aeronautical school in Oklahoma. Oliver was subsequently employed by the Federal Aviation Administration at Logan Airport as an electronic engineering technician. A job to which he was dedicated and loved until a spinal cord injury ended his career in 1984. He held a positive outlook on life even as his health deteriorated over the years.
Oliver gave his life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at Twelfth Baptist Church by Rev. Hester. He was involved in youth activities including Sunday School, the Children’s Choir under the direction of Mrs. Clara A. Jenkins and the Youth Choir directed by Dr. John Weeks. He was also a member of the Boy Scouts of America community scouting organization.
Oliver married the love of his life, Luisa on February 12, 1982. To this union was born one son, Darius Byron.
Oliver enjoyed fresh and saltwater fishing, a pastime he truly relished. He liked the outdoors and activities such as boating and riding a motorcycle. He was gifted, being able to take things apart and assemble them. He enjoyed listening to all kinds of music throughout his lifetime, but was particularly fond of jazz.
His illness deprived him of a lot but not his strong faith and trust in God. Oliver had a remarkable disposition, and never ever complained about his condition and often remarked that he was doing “outstanding” when asked. After a long and debilitating illness, Oliver transitioned from earth to glory on February 18, 2021 with his devoted wife of 39 years and son by his side.
Oliver is survived by his wife and beloved caregiver, Luisa (Bellamy) Byron, sons Dwayne Peroti and Darius Byron, sisters Beverly Byron and Glynnette (Byron) Scott, brother in-law Richard Scott, brother in-law Paul Bellamy, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, aunts, nieces, cousins, special cousin Edith Shephard, and many friends.
