Maybelle Bacon DeCordova was born in Clyo, GA on January 25, 1938 to Earl Bacon and Sarah Jane Smart. At the age of 8 she relocated with her mother and sister, Earline Bacon (now deceased), to Boston, MA, where she attended Boston Public Schools. She graduated in 1956 from Brighton High School. Shortly thereafter she began her career at The New England Life Insurance Company as an actuarial assistant, where she worked until she retired after 41 years of service.
Through a mutual friend, Maybelle met the love of her life, the late Leonard A. DeCordova in the early 1960’s. They married on October 25, 1969 and enjoyed a wonderful 50 years together before Leonard’s transition in April, 2020. From their union came two children, Danielle and Leonard.
Maybelle was known for her beauty, grace and musical talent. She was also a great cook and a wonderful baker. Her lemon merengue, apple and sweet potato pies were legendary and her cakes were epic. Her sweet disposition and gentle mannerisms were most endeared by those who knew her. She was a nurturing and amazing mom, wonderful Auntie and loving Grandmother.
For many years, Maybelle attended St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church in Boston, MA, where she served as a faithful choir member and a member of the women’s ministry. In recent years, she renewed her relationship with Christ and began attending Freedom in Christ Ministries where she remained until her transition.
Maybelle quietly transitioned on the evening of January 4, 2022, surrounded by those she loved most.
