Maurice Artensa Pierce was born May 2, 1930 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Reverend King Caesar Maddox, Sr. and Docia F. O’Myer Maddox. She departed this life on Wednesday, September 2, 2020.
Maurice attended Washington High School and graduated from Howard High School in Atlanta.
Before relocating to Massachusetts from Georgia, Maurice was married to her former late husband, Sanders Wilborn Jr., with whom she had three children Rica A. Smallwood, Sanders Wilborn III, and Sandra Lee-Tucker. Maurice later married the late Charles E. Pierce and from that union one son, Antonio E. Pierce was born. After having multiple jobs over the years, Maurice took a ten-year hiatus to focus on her family. At age 53, she reentered the workforce at State Street Bank from which she retired at the age of 83.
Maurice was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers: K C. (Bertha) Maddox, Timothy E. Sr. (Geraldine) Maddox and her sister Flora E. Maddox. Maurice is survived by her youngest brother James F. Sr. (Alice) Maddox, and her four children, Rica A. Smallwood, Sandra D. (Bradford Tucker) Lee-Tucker, Sanders “Jackie” (Marcia Bell) Wilborn III, Antonio E. (Sharmini Davis) Pierce. In addition, Maurice leaves eight grandchildren, Mario K. Wilborn, Sonja R. Carington, Rahim M. (Darline) Lee, Terryna A. (Charles Williams) Andrews, Andrea L. Ivory Griffin, the late Michael S. Wilborn, Tessa J. Wilborn and Sonata P. (Neil) Hill as well as twenty-one great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
Special thanks to Grandma’s angels on earth and constant companions Mario Wilborn, Lucius Wilder III, and Brittany Wilder. The family would like to recognize Daniel Carington for coordinating the music selection. Also a special thank you to James F. Maddox Sr. for his continuous support.
