Mary L. Wright was born in Selma, AL to Jessie and Carrie Smith (deceased). She attended and graduated from Brantley High School. Mary L. Wright relocated from Alabama to Boston in 1962. She was employed as a Machine Operator at The Gillette Company in South Boston, MA until retirement. Mary then worked part-time at City Life until she became ill. She was very instrumental in her position with City Life.
Mary L. Wright accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age. She was a long time member of New Hope Baptist Church with a strong committed faith which was demonstrated in various church ministries. Mary participated in the Senior Choir, Gospel Chorus, Sunday School, Women’s Ministry, Christian Institute (worship leader), Bible Class, Nurturing for Baptist Churches, Senior Missionary Ministry and she was a strong supporter of Pine Street Inn (cornbread) every 5th Monday in feeding the women. Mary was also a very active member of Spirit of Love Ministries in Ft. Walton Beach, FL.
Proceeding Mary L. Wright in death are Jessie and Carrie Smith (parents) and Anne Mae French(sister). She leaves to cherish her memories her loving devoted husband Richard Wright; Burnetta Rice (sister-in-law); Cleveland Keshawn White “Pooh”(loved like a son) all of Boston, MA; Willie Dean (Thounda) Craig, Sr. (sister and brother-in-law) of Selma, AL; Clearance Strong (brother) of Selma,AL; Marilyn Wallace(niece); Doremus Walace II(loved like a son) of Sugarland, TX; Deric Craig(nephew) of Hoover, AL; and Valencia (Cory) Jackson (neice) of Baltimore, MD. Mary Wright’s Boston family who were committed and loved her: Minister Virginia (Hugh) Bates, Marion (Ellis) Wilson, Letitia (James) Harris, Latrice Bates, Shanara Rice, Cavell (Kendra) Rice, Burnetta and Little Jelena Bates. There are a host of nieces and nephews as well as her New Hope Baptist Church family that will miss and remember Mary Lee Wright.
