Marjorie Kellman Obituary

Majorie Kellman of Boston, formerly of Brooklyn New York, transitioned from this life on September 10, 2022 at age 90 surrounded by the love of her granddaughter Shanee Baptiste. Marjorie was born in San Fernando, Trinidad in 1931 on the the 26th of December to Annie Farrell and George Kellman. She spent her early years attending Catholic school, where she was one of the top math students, and spending time with her five siblings. When Marjorie was older she worked as a telephone operator before becoming a dearly loved mother to the late George Andrew Baptiste. While raising her son she had fruitful career as a hairdresser, then as a skilled book binder.

Marjorie migrated to Brooklyn New York in 1978 to be closer to her son and grandchildren. She returned to book binding when she settled in New York, which she did for decades before retiring. During her retirement Marjorie babysat the many babies on Crown street, often boasting of how many children she taught the ABC's and how to read. Marjorie was a dedicated grandmother, she adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved spending time with them during the summers and the holidays. She had quite the green thumb and an extensive variety of plants that could rival any botanical garden. She was also a star in the kitchen. There will never again be a fried bake and salt fish quite like hers. Marjorie’s home was always welcomed to all. Becoming the central hub during Labor Day carnival weekend where you could find good food, music, drinks or just a place to lay your head before heading onto the road.

She is survived by her sister Jean Farrell, daughter -in-law Marcelene Baptiste, grandchildren Maxine Baptiste, Shanee Baptiste, Ebony Baptiste, Andrew Harris, and Salandy McEwen. Her great-grandchildren Monee Vance, Shanayah Moise, Uria Baptiste, Eon Nicholson Jr., and Oneil George Myrie Jr., and great-great granddaughters Iyce Rivera and Myra Vance. As well as the many devoted nieces and nephews in her home country Trinidad.
