Madeline Estella Godfrey McLaughlin was born in La Lima, Honduras, on April 23, 1928 and she departed this earthly life on October 12, 2021. She was nicknamed "Nena" by friends and family and "Lita" by her grand and great-grandchildren. Madeline was a long standing member of her beloved church Shawmut Community Church of God, where she was known as Mother McLaughlin. Madeline had a strong faith in God, treasured fellowship and family. She loved to take trips and travel. She was well known for cooking for her loved ones and friends, no one would leave her home on an empty stomach! Madeline prided herself on fashion and her collection of decadent hats. She also collected teapots and cherished those who would add to her knick knack collections from their travels. She loved talking on the phone and going shopping with her friends. She had a talent for growing beautiful plants. Although Madeline struggled with health conditions for many years her faith in God and fighting spirit never wavered.
Madeline attended Zone School in Honduras. She migrated to Boston, MA in the Spring of 1965 alongside several close friends Ida, Yolanda and Rose where she undertook housekeeping for the Kaufman Family. She used to read to children at the Shawmut Preschool which lead to her becoming a cook for many years. Madeline was also a nurses aide at Elliot Manor Nursing home.
Madeline was preceded in death by her parents, Constance Godfrey and Herman Smith of Honduras, siblings Selbin Godfrey, Albert Godfrey, David Stanley, and Rita Godfrey, son Larry McLaughlin, son Alexander Godfrey, son-in-law Joseph Isles Sr.
She leaves to treasure her memory; son Mark McLaughlin Sr. of St. Petersburg, FL, daughter Georgeanna McLaughlin Isles of Kissimmee, FL, daughter Mercy McLaughlin of Turners Falls, MA, her five grandchildren; Mark II, Joseph Jr., Ashley, Constance and Kia (Craig Jr), her eight great-grandchildren; Dasan, Shawn, Theresa, Joseph III, Zaire, Zoey, Zavon & Zora, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.
