Lula D. Cowan was born November 16, 1943 in Birmingham, Alabama to Laura May Cowan. Lula attended the Birmingham Public School System. At 8 years old she moved to Boston, MA with her mom and stepfather Edward Zene, where she was enrolled in the Boston Public Schools. She Graduated from “Girls High School” in Roxbury, MA in 1961. Lula also completed several college courses and held various jobs.
In 1965, Lula gave birth to Felicia M. Cowan and in 1968 gave birth to Brandon Cowan. Lula landed employment at Bank of Boston, now known as Bank of America from 1976 and retired from the bank in 1988. Shortly thereafter Lula purchased a home and moved to Savannah, GA. After a few years, she returned to Boston, MA and began working at the Veterans Administration Office (VA), Jamaica Plain, MA. Until her retirement in 2009.
Lula was a faithful member of Grant A.M.E. Church where she was on the Missionary Board and Stewardess Board. Lula also joined John J. Smith Chapter #3 order of the Eastern Star and remained an active member until her passing.
Lula loved social gatherings with family and friends, as well as going to the casino and shopping trips.
