Linda C. Maye

Linda Carol Maye, affectionately known as “Loo Loo,” was born on September 28, 1956, in Farmville, North Carolina, to Carolyn Jean Knight and Carolin More. On May 14, 2026, Linda peacefully departed this life in her sleep in Roxbury, Boston, Massachusetts, leaving behind so many lives touched by her kindness and loyalty. At a young age, Linda earned the nickname “Loo Loo,” a name that stayed with her throughout her life from family. Up north, it’d often get shortened to just “Loo.”

     Linda graduated from Farmville Central High School in 1975. Following graduation, she worked at Jack Cobb & Son BBQ Restaurant before answering a greater call to service. In 1981, she proudly joined the National Guard, serving honorably until 1985. Upon relocating to Boston, she continued her military service until 1987. In 1985, Linda began what would become a remarkable thirty-nine-year career at Madison Park High School. Where for nearly four decades, she shined through her work in the cafeteria. To generations of students, she was simply known as “the lunch lady.” A familiar smile and dependable presence. Even after graduating, many still remembered Linda and the impact she made on their daily lives. 

     After moving to Boston, Linda lived with her Aunt Patricia Maye Ann Wilson and her Great-Aunt Mary Lee Maye. She remained especially close with her cousins Willie Maye, Dino Maye, and Amani Wilson throughout her life. Family meant everything to Linda, and she treasured those relationships deeply. Linda shared a particularly special bond with her younger cousin, Tyler Maye, whom she helped raise from the age of five until sixteen years old. She was a constant source of love, guidance, and support in his life. In her later years, she also developed a special affection for her young cousin Austin, who often visited her home on Hammond Street to spend time with Linda and Dino.

     Linda found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved watching television and faithfully followed her favorite soap operas each afternoon: The Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful, and Passions. In the evenings, she enjoyed crime and detective dramas such as NCIS, Criminal Minds, and Law & Order. Anyone who knew Linda also knew her love for crossword puzzles. It was rare to see her without one nearby.

     A true homebody at heart, Linda loved the comfort and peace she created within her home. She enjoyed her routines and found happiness in the familiar rhythms of everyday life. Her home was her sanctuary. Linda was also a devoted fan of her beloved Boston Celtics. Through every season, she faithfully watched and supported her team, celebrating victories and enduring losses with the same unwavering loyalty. Above all else, Linda was a woman of faith. She believed deeply in the Lord and often referred to him as “the man upstairs.” 

Linda was preceded in death by her mother, Carolyn Jean Knight; her father, Carolin More; her stepfather, Lee Andrew “Rabbit” Knight; and her brothers, Marvin Earl Maye and Broderick Deric Maye. She leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Donna Knight Hart and brother Dana Knight; Annie Moye and Marvin T. Moye; her aunts, Faye Williams and Carolyn Jean Williams; her nephew, Deric Maye; her niece, Keia Grason; her beloved cousins Willie Maye, Dino Maye, and Amani Wilson; her younger cousins Tyler Maye and Austin; her Madison Park High School family; and a host of extended relatives, friends, neighbors, former students, and all who were blessed to know and love her.

     Though Linda never sought the spotlight, her life was a testament to the power of consistency & loyalty. She leaves behind a legacy woven through family bonds and the countless students whose lives she quietly touched over nearly four decades of service. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
