Lena Pearl (Brown) Waters was born December 23, 1937, in Forest Home, Alabama. She was the first child born to the late Joe Lee Brown, Sr., and Lucy (Lewis) Brown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings Katie Lee (Brown) Williams, Joe Lee Brown, Jr., and Leodis Brown: and her brother-in-law Walter E. Williams.
Lena, better known by her middle name Pearl, was educated in the Escambia County Public School system. Her senior year she had the privilege of participating in a work study program that allowed her to work part time as a Dental Assistant. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Pensacola, Florida, class of 1955.
On October 28, 1956, Lena Pearl Brown was united in marriage to Clarence Lamar, her first husband. From this union their only awesome child Anthony C. Lamar, Sr., was born. Pearl loved her son and was an exceptional provider. July 1960, Pearl married her second husband Conrad Waters.
At a very young age, Pearl accepted Christ and was baptized at Sunlight Baptist Church in Pensacola, Florida. When she relocated to Boston, Massachusetts in 1967, she joined St. John Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a member until her death. Pearl was always willing and available to do what was needed to be done in the church. She devoted many years of service faithfully until her health started to decline. Pearl was a member of the Senior Ushers and the Florist ministries. She was also a major benefactor of the annual Community Day Event, the Hospitality Ministry Homeless Street Outreach and to the Peggy Bank Scholarship Ministry. Pearl looked forward to the weekly Bible Study and Prayer Meetings.
Pearl began her long-term career at General Electric – Ametek Aerospace Product, Inc., May 1965 where she rose through the ranks. She was a Gyro Analyst. Pearl enjoyed her work and was very dedicated. She retired April 2001, after 36 years.
Pearl truly loved her family and friends, each and everyone of them. She was a rare gemstone that took pleasure in giving to others. She was very generous, an over shopper, good hearted, hard worker, great provider and loved telling others what to do, how to do it and when to do it! Pearl was also a real “pill.”
Lena Pearl was a beloved daughter, oldest sister, nice sister-in-law, funny aunt, sweet cousin, a loving, giving, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, church member and trusted friend. She will be missed dearly by all.
