Remembering
Laurel Susan Owens
Laurel Susan Owens was born on April 24, 1958, in Brockton, Massachusetts, and was reared by her loving parents Senator William Owens, Sr. (deceased) and Cora Hilliard-Owens.
As part of the METCO program, Laurel attended and graduated from Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School in Sudbury, MA. In 1978 she graduated as a member of the school’s first graduating class of Black students. She went on to work for the Massachusetts State Retirement Board for twenty years until her medical challenges began. Laurel was fun-loving, kind and considerate, always willing to lend a helping hand when she could, and always looking out for her family.
Laurel was an avid sports fan. She developed a love for wrestling while doing her part to help raise her nephew André Owens. The WWE Friday Night Smackdown was their go-to sport to watch. She liked all of the Boston sports teams too. You could hear her cheering on the Celtics, Patriots, Red Sox, Bruins, and from time to time, the New England Revolution with her buddy Lester Morgan. Laurie’s favorite musical entertainer – hands-down – The Artist Formerly Known as Prince.
Celebrating Laurel’s life are her mother Cora Hilliard-Owens; daughter Nicole Owens; siblings Curtis Owens (Elaine), William Owens, Jr., Adam Owens (Rhonda), Sharra Owens-Schwartz (Karen); nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Rest well, Laurie. We will love you, ALWAYS!
