L.C. was born February 12, 1927, to the late Katie Lynn and Miles O.K. Manners in Lubbock, Texas. The youngest of sixteen siblings, L.C. left Lubbock at the age of 16 to look for work in Washington, DC. There he found employment as a custodian at the National Lutheran Home in Rockville, MD, where he worked for 30 years until his retirement in 1986.
He was married briefly in 1950 to Pinkie Jackson, but in 1953, he met Christine Powell, the love of his life. From their relationship, two daughters were born: Wanda Denise and Angela Delores.
In 2014, L.C. moved to Boston to live with his youngest daughter Angela and her husband Earl. He frequented the Adult Day Center in Roslindale, MA, where he enjoyed socializing with other seniors and was well-received, embraced, and adored by all. L.C. would also keep active by walking and, yes…talking! He loved to talk with anyone he met.
L.C. is preceded in death by his parents and all 15 siblings. He leaves to fondly cherish his memories his two daughters Wanda D. Durrah of Washington, D.C. and Angela Savage (Earl) of Hyde Park, MA; three grandchildren: Darryl Johnson (Monique) of Randolph, Tammy Johnson, and Rashod Savage of Hyde Park; three great-children: Izaia, Z’Kaaia, and Deandre, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family in Boston and Washington D.C., and close friends Jackie and Alvin of Las Vegas, NV.
