Joshua Powell, IV of Dorchester, MA passed away on January 9, 2023, at the early age of 53. He was born on June 17, 1969, to Gloria J. Cobbs Powell and Joshua Powell, III (Sonny) in Boston, MA. He was known to many as “Chuck” and was affectionately called “Gene” by family and close friends. Our life-long home of 357 Seaver St. provided a sanctuary to many family members and friends and was often referred to as “Seaver Haven”.
In his youth he was an adventurous Boy Scout and sports fan. He played softball for his beloved “Coach Powell, a.k.a. Dad with ADSL and later would help him coach other teams at Town field. However, basketball was his sport of choice. He displayed his athletic talents on the basketball courts of Arlington High School in Arlington, MA as well as community centers throughout Boston. He later developed skills and talents in carpentry, sales, and landscaping. He often used these talents to help neighbors and friends by mowing lawns, shoveling walkways, or helping with repairs.
Those that knew him knew that he never met a stranger or enemy. He always treated everyone with kindness, welcomed everyone into the family because of his huge heart and irresistible charms. He was a doting son and grandson that loved and adored his Nana. His children and grandchildren were his utmost pride and joy. If anyone called on him for help, he was there in an instant, especially for his siblings. He was proud to be a “Powell”!
