Josephine Daley Obituary

Josephine Augusta Daley affectionately known as “Ma Kitty” was born on December 20, 1930 in Windy Hill, Montserrat to the late Margaret Daley and Michael Daley of Streatham Village.  She attended St Georges School in Harris Village where she was also a member of the St George’s Anglican Church.

Josephine was a courageous and motivated young lady who was determined to support her family. She opened her Variety store/Bakery in Streatham Village. Her Shop came alive on Friday and Saturday nights with her food, music and her patrons. She was a very kind, generous, loving and thoughtful person, always lending a helping hand.

In September 1977, Josephine immigrated to the United States to seek a better life for herself and her children. Family was very important to her, two years after arriving in the United States, she sent for her children to join her. She became a member of St Mark’s Episcopal Church in Dorchester where she regularly worshipped.

Josephine held several jobs which included John Hancock and Paine's Furniture after arriving in Boston. She worked along with the Environmental team at Beth Israel Hospital from 1977 to 1995, from which she retired.

Although retired, she did not stop working, she gained a new role as caregiver to numerous children while their parents went to work.  This included her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.

Over the years, Ma Kitty’s house was the Fun House and created so many memories for her children, grandchildren and their friends. Josephine had a great love for music, dance, cooking and entertaining, her home was the center stage for family celebrations.

Josephine entered into eternal rest on October 8th, 2020. She was preceded into eternal life by her son Horatio Daley, her siblings the late Nathaniel Daley, Mary Daley, William Daley and John Daley and her grandson Delroy Mayo. She leaves behind to mourn, her siblings Charles Daley, Catherine Allen, Jim Daley, Anita Daley, and Viola Barzey.  Her children Grace Mayo (husband Handy), Clementine, Jennifer, Joycelyn and Beresford, grandchildren, along with many great grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family and friends both here in the United States and United Kingdom.

Ma Kitty was the glue that held her family together, we will miss you dearly!
