James Diggs, Jr Obituary

James O. Diggs Jr. Beloved Son, Brother, Uncle and Friend was born in Boston Massachusetts on January 31, 1930, to the loving union of James O. Diggs Sr. and Gladys E. (Victor) Diggs.

James attended and was a lifelong member of St. Augustine and St. Martin Church in Roxbury, MA which was his grandmother’s church. Jimmy, as his family and friends called him, grew up in a loving, nurturing home with his mother, father, sister, and brother. A home filled with a bond and closeness that emanated love, joy, and laughter. In his formative years he attended English High School and sometime after graduating entered the United States Army where he served his country with reverence and dedication. Upon returning home James’ leadership qualities and dedication to hard work garnered him management positions with leading retailers such as W.T. Grants, J.M. Fields, and Kmart until his retirement.

James lovingly and fondly called Uncle Jimmy was a devoted son, dedicated brother, and loving uncle. As a son and brother, he prioritized his family’s needs over his own and provided endless love, support, and care whenever it was needed. Uncle Jimmy loved music, cars, and enjoyed making a great salad and he was known for making his special dish lasagna. Like his father, he wanted to enjoy a bowl of vanilla ice cream every day. He had a quiet, observant personality and a dry sense of humor. “Uncle Jimmy” had a knack for offering an uplifting word that was lighthearted and would end with laughter in your soul. Uncle Jimmy had a quick wit and wisdom that was delivered with ease.

God in His Love and Mercy called James, Uncle Jimmy home with his sister June at his side, hand in hand, with peace in his heart and a smile on his lips On April 21, 2023

He leaves to cherish his memory of his sister June, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

James is proceeded in death by his father James O. Diggs {1995}, mother Gladys E. (Victor) Diggs {1999}, brother Gerald O. Diggs {2000}. James is survived by his sister June L. Diggs of Weymouth, MA, niece, Nicole Fernandez of Minnesota, nephew Rory Diggs of Virginia and niece Maleka Little of Virginia and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Special Thanks addition to his nieces Cynthia Fernandez and Lori Thames for their love, unselfish acts of kindness and care over the years.
