Jacqueline “Jackie” Ward Scott passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Jackie was born in Greenwich, Connecticut on September 19, 1935, to the late Stanley and Ethel “Mudder” Desmond. She was one of fourteen siblings. The family later relocated to Springfield, Massachusetts where she spent her younger years, then eventually made they made their final move to Savoy, Massachusetts where Jackie graduated from North Adams High School in 1954.
Jackie has always been known to care lovingly for friends and family members in need, so it was no surprise that she decided to pursue a career in nursing at the Catherine Booth Memorial Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. She graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1956. She went on to work at the Townsend Nursing Home, New England Hospital, and then eventually she settled in at the Boston Medical Center where she spent many years working in the Intensive Care Unit and the Emergency Room. She had a a long and distinguished career at BMC receiving many awards and accolades for excellence in nursing care. She was known by those she worked with as caring, hardworking, and compassionate. Many said that she had the spirit of an angel. She retired from BMC in 2000.
Jackie was a longtime member of First Church of God on Boston, Massachusetts. She served many years on the Nurses Board, and also as the “beloved” church summer camp nurse.
She later moved to Morning Star Baptist Church where she also served on the Nurses Board.
Jackie married the love of her life, Calvin Richard Scott, in 1959. They eventually moved to Stoughton, Massachusetts, where they lived and raised their family. Over the years she has enjoyed gardening, swimming, and reading. She also loved taking long walks, hiking in the Blue Hills, and spending time with her six beloved grandchildren. She was known as an outstanding cook and enjoyed showing her love by sharing her special dishes with others.
Jackie took care of many family members and friends in times of sickness. She will always be remembered for her warm and nurturing spirit.
Jackie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Calvin Richard Scott.
Carrying on her legacy are her three children: Eleanore Michele (Scott) Johnson (Jerome) of Johns Creek, GA; Cahner Stanley Scott of West Warwick, RI; Anika Nainda (Scott) DePina (William) of Stoughton, MA; Six grandchildren:
Jerome Johnson, Jessica Johnson, Kayla Johnson, Alyssa Johnson, Sabreon DePina, Nakai DePina; Two Sisters: Sheila ( Desmond) Palmer, Dianne (Desmond) Dollison; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
