Gertrude Mitchell Obituary

Gertrude Mitchell died on November 28th 2019.  She was the daughter of the late James M. Mitchell and Oneida (Roy) Mitchell, the devoted sister of the late Frances E. (Mitchell) Brooks, the sister of the late Helen (Mitchell) I Morris and the aunt to Arlene (Morris) Robertson and Rodney E. Brooks.

Gertrude was born in Boston, MA, on June 10th, 1920 and educated in the Boston Public Schools system, graduating from Girls' Latin School. Later she attended Boston Clerical School, graduating from Massachusetts Bay Community College studying Business Administration Federal Curriculum. On June 7th, 1973 she received her degree of Associate in Science with high honors and also received her Bachelor Degree in Science. She worked days as a clerk stenographer and did secretarial work while attending college nights and Saturdays. After years of hard work, she was promoted to the position of Management Analyst for the US government.  Aside from a successful career, Gertrude spent her leisure time taking piano lessons and especially enjoyed playing classical music. She was a kind-hearted, down to earth, loving sister and aunt who lived out her active, leisure life at Hebrew Senior Life. You would find her socializing with her peers and staff, spending quality time with her late sister, niece and nephew completing word games by the elevator and engaging in painting or coloring projects. She enjoyed exercising in Rubex group, dancing in Fab n' Fit, tap & clap, participating in guided relaxation and sing-along groups. Gertrude was someone who would greet you with a genuine smile that would certainly brighten your day.

Gertrude accepted Christ as a child and was a charter member of Holy Temple, United Holy Church of America, Inc.  She had a long period of faithful, dedicated Christian service.  She was a singer, pianist, and in later years a choir member of Holy Temple under the late Bishop James M. Sneed, as well as under the late Elder ‘Daniel L. Reason and current Elder Thomas Williams.

Gertrude was a devoted, loving sister and aunt. She was cherished, greatly respected and loved by her niece, nephew, grand niece, grand nephew and her many friends, all of whom will miss her beautiful personality and smiling face. She will be especially missed by her loving niece Arlene and her loving nephew Rodney. She gave her all in service to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and now has passed from labor to reward, resting in the arms of Jesus.  We are looking forward to meeting her in her mansion in heaven.
