Gerald Singleton Obituary

Gerald D. Singleton was born on January 14, 1933 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was one of many children born to the late Theodore Linwood Singleton of Wilmington, North Carolina and Helen Selena Daniels of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Gerald or “Chubby” as he was known by family and friends or Pops to everyone else, graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School for Boys. After high school, he met the love of his life, Jackie and got married in 1951 and from that union they had six children. It was at this time, Gerald went to work for Quincy Shipyard followed by B.F. Goodrich until the plant closed. Afterwards, he worked at Suffolk Superior Courthouse until his retirement in 2006.

Gerald’s pleasure was listening to his old school jazz (unless he was driving with his grandchildren and he would let them listen to their music), watching old Western cowboy movies, and cooking/eating homemade meals as he never liked to eat take out. His favorite meals were steak and spaghetti however his specialty for the grandkids when they were young was grilled cheese sandwiches. After undergoing five surgeries in 2019, his eating habits had to change and his daughter Lisa impressed upon him eating fresh fruits, vegetables, and salads (which he was not a fan of) to improve his health.

He is preceded in death by his wife of sixty one years, Jacqueline G. Singleton and four children: Gerald D. Singleton III, Glenn Singleton, Rodney Singleton, and Renita Brodie, granddaughter Larissa Robinson of Pennsylvania, and all but one sibling.

He leaves behind to mourn his loss his remaining two children, Pamela and Lisa (James), Grandchildren: Tomeka (George), Rodney, Ibana, James, Gerald IV, Jirayna, Jamal, Jaquan, Destinee, and Tayla. Great-grandchildren: Marcellus, Darcellus, Tahj, Imani, Brooklyn, Christian, Dreyson, Jacquilyn, and Eliyahkam. Great-great-grandchild: Ava Brielle. One sister Velma and a host of family and friends. He was an amazing father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, uncle, great-uncle, and cousin. Gerald will be loved and missed by all who knew him.
