Frederick Saidi Muwamba was born on 1 April 1953 in Durban, South Africa. He passed away on 24 June 2020 in Boston, USA. He was 67 years old.
Fred was the first born of the late Frederick Stanley Muwamba and Regetta Muwamba. He spent his formative years in Durban, then in 1960, aged seven, Fred emigrated to his father’s home country, Malawi. Fred made the move with his parents and younger siblings, Dahlia and Katongo.
In Malawi, Fred attended Henry Henderson Institute for primary school, followed by Chichiri Secondary School and Malamulo Secondary School. After high school, he attended The Malawi Polytechnic, where he graduated with a diploma. Following his graduation, he worked for David Whitehead & Sons, a fabric factory.
In January 1981 Fred emigrated again. This time to the USA. He attended the University of Nebraska in the early 1980s. Thereafter, he worked for the Four Seasons Hotels in Boston and later in Seattle. From Seattle, he moved to Atlanta, where he was married for eight years, and went to nursing school. Ten years ago, he returned to Boston where he worked for the Tufts Medical Centre. He retired in 2018.
