Florence Gittens Gaskin died suddenly on December 10th at her home in Cranston Rhode Island. She born in Boston, and was the only child of Noel ( Farnum) ) Gittens and Clifford Gittens.
Florence attended the Jeremiah E. Burke High School and during her high school years, was one of the founders of the Teen Age Club, a club devoted to friendship and community service.
After graduating from high school , Florence attended beauty school and was a practicing beautician (maintaining her license throughout her lifetime), as well as family hairdresser for many years before she and her husband Gregory Gaskin became employees of the then new technology company, Digital Equipment Corporation. They lived with their only child, daughter Jamice in Raymond, New Hampshire and San Jose, California.
Florence was predeceased by her husband and after his death, moved back to the East Coast to Cranston Rhode Island , working for CVS Caremark and the Avon Corporation.
She was a beloved and trusted friend and had the gift of being a calming presence, protector and source of comfort for friends,family, and her nieces and nephew .
She loved her dogs and was an avid reader. There was always a book nearby. Florence also enjoyed traveling. She particularly liked her visits to Martha's Vineyard and Barbados.
After moving to Cranston, Florence participated every year in the Christmas Adopt a Family Program. She also donated to multiple other charities. She was empathetic, compassionate and always willing to lend a helping hand.
She was a loving mother and doting grandmother to her grandson, Elijah. She leaves behind, her daughter, grandson and many relatives and friends
