Elaine Veronica Morrison (nee Manhertz) was born on November 21, 1946 in Thompson Town, Jamaica West Indies. She was the eldest of four children born to the late Frank and Neva Manhertz.
Elaine’s early childhood and secondary education took place in Jamaica. After graduating from Spaulding Nursing School, she worked at several hospitals in her community before she migrated to the United States. It was during her “school days” that she met her beloved “John” in Morgan’s Pass, Jamaica in the mid 1960’s. Elaine married Jonathan Morrison on August 3, 1973. From this union were born three daughters, Stephanie, Sophia and Sherdene.
Elaine migrated to the United States with her youngest daughter Sherdene in the fall of 1987. Jonathan, Stephanie and Sophia joined them in the winter of 1987. Elaine worked at the University Hospital in Boston, MA for several years. She later transferred to Boston Children’s Hospital where she worked for over 20 years before retiring.
Elaine was a faithful member of Twelfth Baptist for over 30 years. She loved music and sang in the Chapel Choir. She also enjoyed doing crosswords puzzles, gardening and spending time in the warm ocean waters of her homeland. Her greatest joy, however, came from caring for her family. She loved cooking elaborate meals and delighted in watching her husband, daughters and grandchildren sit together at her dining room table, talking, laughing and enjoying home cooked meals she prepared. Elaine was a prayer warrior. Her prayer and devotion time was not be interrupted. She extended her love for Christ to her church family and was known to call and comfort, pray with and support her sisters and brothers during their time of need.
Life afforded Elaine many proud moments including seeing “her girls” receive graduate degrees, watching them marry, purchase their own homes and become successful professional adults. Elaine’s love for her husband and daughters were rivaled only by her love for her first grandchild Sherryann and her grandsons Isaias and Kyan.
Elaine departed this life on January 1, 2022. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her devoted and beloved husband of 48 years Jonathan, her three daughters, Stephanie Adaramola, Sophia Morrison and Sherdene Morrison, her three grandchildren, Sherryann Morrison, Isaias and Kyan Adaramola, her aunt Viola, her brothers Wilberforce Manhertz and Earle Manhertz, and their wives Pauline and Maxine respectively, her sister Bevan Manhertz Thomas, a brother- in-law Richard and his wife Gem, a sister-in-law Hilda, nieces, nephews, cousins, her church family and a host of other family and friends. She is preceded in death by her sister Enid Campbell and her son-in-law Temitope Adaramola.
Elaine, we love you, we miss you and you will always be in our hearts. Rest in the bosom of our Lord until we meet again and part no more.
