Edgar Harrington Jr. of Dorchester, MA also known as "Eddie" and "Ivory" was born March 28, 1932 to Edgar Harrington, Sr. and Mamie Lofton in Lake City, Florida.
Eddie grew up in Lake City where he attended Florida Public Schools until he was drafted into the US Army. Years later he moved to Ft. Lauderdale and then to Boston, MA where he married his present wife, Eartha Marshall.
Eddie was a great man with a gigantic heart. He had a huge personality and a sense of humor that was infectious and electric. He could light up a room just with his presence. As a result he was loved unconditionally by everyone he touched. He had a community of family, friends, and neighbors throughout the States along with brothers and sisters from his church.
Eddie had a passion for music especially gospel, blues, jazz, and R&B and he was a great singer. Eddie and his friends would sing and do dance steps to their favorite artists at the time. It was fun to watch them perform. They had lots of fun when they spent time together. Eddie and his wife, Eartha, shared their talent for singing with the Sr. Choir at St. John Missionary Baptist Church where he was a member for years.
Eddie loved cars and driving. He could drive anything and was an excellent driver. Eddie and his friends loved taking road trips to Florida and they took many. Eddie worked for many transportation companies over the years as a driver of trucks before working for and retiring from the MBT A where he was a driver of buses, trolleys, and trains.
He enjoyed reading scriptures, singing with the Choir, spending quality time with friends and family, bus trips to New York, football, barbequing, eating good food and having a wonderful time listening to great music. He lived a good, long, and blessed life. At the age of 90, Edgar passed away peacefully in his sleep at the St. Joseph Nursing Center in Dorchester, MA.
Edgar leaves to love and cherish his memory, his beloved wife Eartha Harrington, his children Angie, Earnest, and Elaine Harrington, of Florida; his niece Eloise Adams of Florida; his step children Katherine Lois Baker (David) of Cambridge, MA, Dorothy G. Marshall of Revere MA, and Patricia Johnson of Atlanta, GA, along with grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and many other friends and relatives.
