Derek S. Paul (58) of Roxbury MA, passed away on May 18, 2023.
Derek was born to the late Jean L. Morgan and Robert (Bobby) Paul on February 23, 1965, in Boston, MA. He was strong, thoughtful, inquisitive, and a patient father. During his teenage years, Derek had a passion for playing basketball and football. He often spent time at Washington Park engaging in pickup games. In addition, he was dedicated to practicing karate and idolized Bruce Lee. Growing up, the Paul family always had dogs, and Derek's love for them ran deep.
Derek is survived by his three children, Derek A. Paul, Elijah Paul, and Tayleece Paul. His love for his children knew no bounds. Regardless of the circumstances, he always made sure his children knew how much he loved them and what he would do for them. Derek found great joy in cooking for his children and also enjoyed watching kung-fu movies, discussing aliens/conspiracy theories, and playing chess. He was well-known and respected within the Roxbury community, where he was raised. Derek had a love for culinary cuisine which fueled his longtime career as a chef. He began his career in his late teens and his passion drove him to become Chef de Cuisine for popular restaurants around the Boston area.
He was a beloved brother, uncle, and friend to many; and will be missed deeply.
Derek Paul courageously battled cancer for 7 months. Despite enduring numerous treatments, he maintained his optimism and never lost his sense of humor. Throughout his fight, he continued to spend time outdoors, walking and enjoying the company of his family and friends, often challenging them to friendly games of chess.
