Daniel Octavious Bogues was born April 10, 1949 in Elizabeth City, NC to the late Thelma “Marie” Spellman and Karrie Bogues, the youngest of their eight children. He moved to Boston, MA when he was 11 and remained there for the duration of his life. Prior to moving, he attended Sawyers Creek Baptist Church in Camden NC and then attended Bethel Baptist Church in Roxbury MA for many years.
He attended the Boston Public Schools and later met and fell in love with Barbara Hughes through his brother John who was married to her sister Shirley. They married on July 15, 1967 and resided in Roxbury, MA, having two daughters, Stephanie and Michelle. Eventually buying their home in Dorchester, MA in 1974, having two more daughters, Lakisha and daughter (deceased).
Daniel worked hard all his life. He worked at Honeywell for 29 years and Dean Foods for 10 years until he retired. He had several hobbies. He liked bowling, shooting pool, fishing, riding motorcycles, doing yard work, driving fast cars, and cheering on his favorite sports teams: the Red Sox, Celtics, and the New England Patriots.
Daniel was a gentle man of few words. He let his actions speak for themselves. Nothing meant more to him than his family. He was always surrounded by family and when he fell ill, his wife Barbara stayed by his side as he had done for her during their 56 years of marriage. Quietly watching over him, caring for him, and protecting him until he was called home on April 18, 2024.
He was there in so many ways and we are forever grateful for him. His quiet presence and stoic nature will be greatly missed.
