Missionary Cynthia Adina Dottin was born on May 18th, 1925, in the city of Cambridge, MA. Missionary Dottin was the fourth child born to Clifton Nathaniel Chase and Elverna (Haywood) Chase, formerly of Christ Church, Barbados West Indies.
Missionary Dottin attended the Cambridge Public Schools and graduated from the Cambridge High and Latin School. Missionary Cynthia married James Wosley Dottin, Sr. of Cambridge, MA, and raised two children to adulthood, Wilma L., and James W., Jr. She worked at several companies in the Boston area, including the Bernat Yarn Company. As an entrepreneur, Missionary Dottin was a talented, licensed beautician for the hair, face, and nails. To advance her job opportunities, she enrolled in a program at the Roxbury Freedom House to learn computer skills, and then to the Occupational Industrialization Center (OIC) to learn keypunching skills. These skills opened the door for employment at the United States Post Office, from which she retired after twenty plus years.
Accepting the Lord at an early age, Cynthia knew the word of God. She was a member of her family’s church, First Holiness Church, at 211 Columbia Street in Cambridge. As an adult, Missionary Dottin joined the Christ Temple Church of Personal Experience in Roxbury under the leadership of Rev. Dr. William Frederick Fisher. As she matured in Christ, she later joined the community of believers at the State Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop Louis Cesar Young. Along her pilgrim journey, Missionary Dottin was appointed “Mother” of the Faith Temple Church of God in Christ under the pastorate of the Rev. Dr. James Wosley Dottin, Jr.
Missionary Mother Cynthia Adina Dottin is survived by her daughter, Evangelist Missionary Wilma C. Powell, and son, Rev. Dr. James W. ( Lady Dr. Sartreina M.) Dottin Jr. Those who preceded Missionary Cynthia Adina Dottin were sister Ruby (Vernon) Volney, brother Jonathan C. ( Enid ) Chase, Jr., and sister Deaconess Miriam (Willie) Miles. Surviving relatives include niece and Goddaughter, Missionary Corinne (Deacon James) Tabon, nephew Clifton Chase, grandchildren, Samuel (Tisheya) Powell, Pastor Benjamin (Barbara) Powell, Daniel Powell, Tatjana Y. Dottin, Dr. James W. (Dr. Ruth Y.) Dottin III, Janiece E. Dottin, E. Sharai Dottin, and a host of great-granddaughters and great-grandsons.
