Clifton Lloyd Thompson was a caring and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. He fell asleep peacefully on 20 May 2021 at his residence, at the age of 87.
He was born to James Thompson and Essie Brooks on July 20, 1933 in Mannings Hill, Jamaica. In Jamaica, he was affectionately known as Jazz by his friends. He lived in Sheffield, England for 18 years before residing and becoming a naturalized citizen of the United States of America.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Clifton. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and favorite canines. He loved gardening. Flowers surrounded the house in front and vegetables and fruit trees bordered the back yard. His craftsmanship as a carpenter showed in his home and in gifts to others. He loved challenging others in a game of cards, dominoes, bingo, Connect Four, checkers or Scrabble. His favorite pastime was completing Word Search puzzles while listening to Boston Red Sox games on the radio. He enjoyed Movie Night each week and loved to watch Western genre shows on television.
Clifton had an infectious smile and gentle personality. His keen sense of humor demonstrated his positive outlook on life. He was able to make others feel good or buffer a stressful situation by sharing a funny analogy. He loved sharing his culinary skills with others whether it was barbequing or his favorite specialty, Jamaican cuisine. He loved reading his bible daily and just talking to God in his quiet time. He shared many words of wisdom such as, “Sensible people earn respect by overlooking wrongs,” and “A fool gives control to anger but a wise man controls himself.” He was always calm. Even in the worst crisis, he could keep you at ease.
Clifton was proceeded in death by his high school sweetheart and wife of 26 years, Monica E. Barrett Thompson, his parents, and seven brothers: Llewellen, Carlton, Reginald, Ivan, Paul, Edgar, George.
He is survived by his children (4): Carlton (Beverly) Thompson, Marcia (Carl) Forbes, Orrett “Peter” ( Lorna) Thompson, and Donovan ( Gwendolyn) Thompson; sisters (3): Sheila Thompson, Valrita Thompson, and Kathleen Thompson; grandchildren (12): Natasha Ashley, Orrette Thompson, Shar’af Rasson Williams, Crystal Thompson, Candilee Thompson Barnett, Armard Forbes, Sadikeie Thompson, Gordon Forbes, Tajno Thompson, Carla Forbes, Joshua Thompson, and Sarah Thompson; great grandchildren (5): Shakiya Williams, Jakira Williams, LaKendra Williams, Isaiah Spivey and Kaimeer Ashley.
