Christopher Allen Massey was born in Boston, Massachusetts in the spring of 1978, the youngest child of Nerissa and James Massey, Sr. Younger brother to Michael and James Jr., and “Baby Brother” to sister Charmaine. Even as a newborn he held several titles- the youngest sibling, son, grandson, nephew, cousin and he embraced them all. His youth and age was no way a detriment to him. He watched, listened, and learned, which shaped him into “One who was wise beyond his years.” Chris made a major personal and professional choice to relocate to Atlanta, Georgia in 2005 extracting himself from his comfort zone of Boston. He knowingly embarked on a journey of personal spiritual discovery, with the trials and tribulations of self-discovery, self-improvement, and self-discipline.
Chris forged a career in the dental insurance field, becoming a Supervisor at Delta Dental since 2014. He worked with dozens of coworkers helping to develop their skills with the goal of making sure that everyone had the opportunity to advance. His interpersonal communication skills made him an ideal supervisor. Chris epitomized the cliché “To know him was to love him”.
Conversations with Chris were always informational and educational. He was opinionated and anecdotal, to converse with him was almost therapeutic and he always had time to listen. Often the voice of reason, he was able to build bonds that were stronger than they ought to have been. His ability to connect with others allowed him to share his fount of knowledge and life lessons, a true case of the youngest becoming one of the wisest.
Chris lived a full life, he lived 1000 years in his short time here, filled with love, laughter, and friendship. He told the best stories and jokes. He could make friends where ever he went. Most of all he loved his family and friends and would extend a helping hand whenever it was needed. He never hesitated to help someone who was in need. He was indeed his brother’s keeper.
Chris is survived by his parents, Nerissa and James L. Massey Sr.; brothers Michael Massey and James L. Massey Jr.; sister Charmaine Massey; sister-in-law Taheera Massey; nieces Yasmine Massey and Alicia Massey; nephews Jaeden Scott-Massey, Micah Scott-Massey, Christian Massey, and James S. Massey. He is also survived by his New Jersey family and his Atlanta friends who became family, he had many close friends, all of whom he loved and touched deeply.
A celebration of Chris’s life will be held on Monday, September 13, 2021 at Davis Funeral Home, 89 Walnut Avenue, Roxbury beginning at 10am, with a repast immediately following at the V.F.W. Post 1018, 500 Morton Street, Dorchester.
