Carol Serena Cater was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts on April 27, 1942 to (the late) Evelyn and William “Bill” Cater. She attended the Williams School in Chelsea. Carol later stayed with an aunt and uncle in Washington, D.C. for about a year, and then she returned to Chelsea. Around the age of 18, Carol met and fell in love with Samuel (Sam) Miller. Carol and Sam were together for 48 years, until Sam’s death in 2003. During their time together, their three sons were born: Thomas, Chris and Byron.
For 15 years, Carol worked as an Assistant Parent Coordinator in the Melrose Public School System through the METCO Program. Shortly thereafter, in 1998 Carol started working for the Boston Public Schools as a Special Education Paraprofessional, assisting students. She was with the Boston Public School system for 12 years, until her retirement in 2010.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Paula "Pistol Pete" Banks.
Carol leaves to mourn her three sons, Thomas Cater of Boston, Christopher “Chris” Cater of Dorchester, and Byron Cater of Brookline; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Dorille “Dollie” Butler of Chelsea, Eloise “Loysie” Miller-Davis of Brockton, Evelyn “Evie” Cartwright of Dorchester, Jacquelline “Jackie” Lawton (husband-Leon) of Dorchester and Joseph “Cater” Cater of Fort Worth, Texas, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Carol will be missed by everyone who knew her.
