Bernice “Bea” Sutton-Evans 68 of Boston MA passed away peacefully on July 27, 2022 at Tufts Medical Center. She was born in Boston MA, August 1953, to Arthur & Elise Sutton. She spent her childhood in Boston where she attended Girls High School and was active in many school activities. After high school, Bernice attended Northeastern University where she met and married the late James E. Evans Jr. From that union, they had 4 children, 3 sons and a daughter. James and Bernice divorced and Bernice made the decision to raise her children in her hometown of Boston, MA. Later, she met and married the late Nicholas (Nick) Daugherty in 1987 and together, they had a son
Bernice strongly believed that “education is the key to success.” She later returned to school to earn her bachelor’s degree in education from UMASS Boston. It was an important goal for Bernice to achieve, especially since it had been put on hold earlier in her life to raise her children. She and Nick owned and operated a transportation business, “BeeLine Transportation” for over 20 years. Bernice also worked at Delta Airlines which afforded her the pleasure of participating in her favorite pastime, traveling. She traveled around the world with friends and family. One of her favorite places to travel was Lima, Peru.
Bernice loved being a grandmother or Koko as her grandchildren affectionately called her. She valued the time she got to spend with all her grandkids, whether that was homeschooling her twin grandsons and later her granddaughter, having her grandkids stay with her for a few weeks during the summer weeks or watching her grandkids so their parents can go on vacation. Her grandkids looked forward to Koko coming to visit because this meant she would let them eat pop-tarts for breakfast. She was the best Koko her grandkids could ask for.
Bernice is preceded in death by her parents Arthur L. and Elise G. Sutton Sr, twin sister Ida Valentine, older brothers Arthur Sutton Jr. and Melvin Sutton Sr. as well as her husband Nicholas Daugherty. She is survived by her older siblings Eugene Sutton Sr. Judith Muhammad, and Stephen Sutton Sr. as well as her baby sister, Rosalie Sutton-Turner. Bernice has 5 children, James (Shannan), Jermaine (Terri), Dwayne, Stephanie (Calvert) and Malik (Sarah). She has 15 grandchildren whom she loved and adored till the day she died as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She will truly be missed by all who have known and loved her.
