Bernice Elizabeth Brown was born on November 30, 1936 in Belton, South Carolina to the late Furman and Elizabeth (Agnew) Martin of Belton, South Carolina. Of this union, five children were born; Doris, Mildred, Catherine(deceased) and Furman Martin Jr.
Bernice attended the Geer-Gantt High School in Belton, South Carolina and in 1954, she moved to Boston, MA. As a young woman, she was employed at several businesses including, Starbrush, American Brush, and Sears and Roebuck. The uniqueness of her work history was that she was beloved by all who worked with her. As young child in Belton, SC, Bernice was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. During that time, she began her Christian life by attending Sunday school and bible study faithfully.
Bernice met her loving husband, Joseph Brown and later they married on April 10, 1962. Bernice was the proud mother of three children; Donald Martin, Marcus Brown, and Denise Brown. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to everyone who knew her. She loved her family and friends and was a kind-hearted person.
Bernice continued her Christian walks with God after moving to Boston, where she joined the historic Peoples Baptist Church, under the pastoral leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Richard M. Owens and continued her membership under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Dr. Wesley A. Roberts. Bernice was always an active and faithful member who always made sure she did everything that she could to contribute to the building and God’s Kingdom. She was a devoted member of the church and served on many auxiliaries within the church, including the Outreach Ministry, choir, Senior Expo, and many other committees. Bernice was well known to bake her famous cream cheese pound cakes for many church and family events.
On November 10, 2020, Bernice heard the call from heaven, answered and went home to be with Lord to claim her Heavenly reward.
She leaves to cherish her loving husband, Joseph of 58 years, three loving children; Donald Martin of South Carolina, Marcus Brown, daughter in-law Beatrice of Randolph, MA, and Denise Brown of Boston, MA; Her three grandchildren; Marcus Jr., Devaun, Matthew and one great-grandchild Marcus Tre; her sisters, Doris Beeks-Benjamin (James) of Boston MA, Jean Sumler (Steve) of Illinois, Sister in-law Lillian Martin (wife of the late Furman Martin Jr.) a cherished aunt Eunice Agnew and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
