Angela Hemingway Obituary

Angela Hemingway passed away peacefully on August 28, 2019, after battling a terminal illness. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her passing. She is survived by her father Herman W. Hemingway, her sister Myra Hemingway, her nieces Amarachi, Alanna, and Amaechinna Iwuh, and her partner, Doug Parsons. She leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles and cousins that she loved dearly. Angela loved her garden and took pride in growing exotic flowers and vegetables. She enjoyed spending time on the beach with her partner Doug, sister Myra and nieces. Her backyard was an oasis and was revered as a certified wildlife habitat by the National Wildlife Federation. Angela was also a proud member of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society and attended the Boston Flower & Garden Show annually. Angela and her late mother Barbara Hemingway, were the family historians. Angela enjoyed collecting photos and memoirs of her family’s history and sharing them during holiday celebrations. She loved salsa dancing, cooking food from her garden, hosting family events and exploring different cultures. She was a seasoned world traveler and visited the continents of Africa, Europe and the Far East during her lifetime. She was an active member of the Bay State Dominica Association. Angela was an adventurer and enjoyed kayaking, skiing, hiking and collecting artifacts and memorabilia from around the world. She shared the family tradition of artistic talent and could effortlessly create a masterpiece with pencil, paint or charcoal without any thought. Angela attended Cornell University and worked at the Department of Transportation for many years. She held the position of Deputy Director of the Small Business Resource Center. She was the recipient of numerous awards and certificates of appreciation for her contributions in promoting nondiscrimination, diversity and equal opportunity in the Commonwealth. Angela will be remembered for her loving heart, fascination for the world and intrinsic intelligence.
