Alice Victoria West was born on March 10, 1929. She was the eldest daughter of the late Arthur and Estelle Sampson who had 11 children in all. While growing up in a large household, Alice became very close with her siblings. Her sisters and brothers were very important to her.
Alice graduated from Everett High School in 1947. After graduation, she immediately went to work Schrafft’s candy factory to help her family out. She fell in love with the late Earl West and married him in May of 1950. Together they had 7 children, Deborah Williams of Atlanta GA, Earl West, Yvonne Mattox, Barbara Carusi of Florida, Gregory West, Steven West, and Joanne Brown of Florida. Out of her 7 children they produced 11 grandchildren who she loved very much. Her grandchildren gave her 20 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. She always said she was blessed.
Alice enjoyed life in general, but she loved to gamble. Whether it was going to the horse races or dog races, playing poker, or going to casino to play slot machines or playing the daily lottery, she loved it all. She also had a passion for clothes shopping and finding different head apparel. She was well known for her style of dressing and the headwear to match an outfit. Her nieces and nephews always admired her style of dressing and loved her outfits.
Over the last 94 years of her life Alice went through many medical problems. She was legally blind in one eye and had a triple bypass over 30 years ago and numerous other health issues. But she said she was blessed to still be here after all that she had gone through. In the end, she said she was very tired, so very tired, and ready to go home. She loved her family, and she loved all her children very much and would want them to remember that above all else. She will be missed.
