Alfred Leonard Johnson (Known as A.J. or Al) was the third born to the union of the late Charlie Will and Sarah Ann (Curley Foreman) Johnson on January 12, 1946 in Lyons, Georgia. Alfred moved to Boston as a teenager in 1963 and took on various jobs until landing at UPS (United Parcel Service) in Watertown, MA in 1966. While employed there he met Trumilla Hinnant in 1974. He was mentored by Harold Vaughan (deceased), who guided him through a lot of his achievements. While at UPS he was a member of Investor Club (a group of Black UPS drivers). Alfred retired from UPS in 1978. He became owner of AT&T Liquors, named after his children (Alex, Tameeka and Terry) in 1979 then Liquor City. Later, he took on the night club business. He then took on jobs as a courier until he became ill in 1980. Alfred loved to keep busy so after retiring from UPS he took a job at Dynamex doing rushed deliveries. He also had an entrepreneurial spirit which showed through his various business ownership in real estate, liquor stores and night clubs. At a time when entertainment and liquor licenses were difficult to secure, particularly for black business owners, Al was able to secure three liquor store licenses and two nightclub licenses. Cortee's and Caprinia became popular clubs for in the community during the 1980's.

Alfred was an avid lover of sports, food, history, and travel. He loved to pass on his passion for food by making sure everyone ate as he did. His love for great tasting food also led him to ask family and close friends to prepare their special dishes or cakes for him on occasion.
