Albert Wayne Pless Sr. of Roxbury, MA passed away on Monday, February 1, 2021, at the age of 79.
Albert was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on September 15, 1941. He was raised in Stockton CA. He is the son of the union of father Fred Pless and Mother Cleo Pless. He was the youngest of 8 children. Albert graduated in 1959 from Edison Senior High School where he excelled in track and field. His work ethic and desire to take care of his family led to him enlist in the United States Air Force at the age of 18. He was Honorably Discharged from the United States Air Force on February 6, 1963.
After his time in the service, Albert moved back to his hometown of Stockton, California, where he married Margaret Richardson (from Boston) who he met while stationed at Pease Air Force base in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Albert worked as a Postman for the United States Postal Service to support his family while living in Stockton. In 1968, Albert moved his family to Boston, where he worked for General Motors for 15 years and lived until his death in 2021.
Even in Celtic Nation, this huge Los Angeles Lakers fan was well-liked in the community. Albert Sr. or Al as he was known to his Boston friends was an avid biker and walker. You could often catch Al riding his bike or walking to the store, to a relative’s house, or just cruising the neighborhood. He was the guy who stopped by to see if you needed anything, the guy who often helped the delivery person deliver packages to other seniors. Albert was a lover of people and his family felt that love most of all. He was present at family gatherings, at his kids’ events, and at his grandkids’ performances and sporting events. Whatever the occasion, ‘Granddaddy’ was there. In his later years, Albert Sr. loved spending quality time with his ex-wife Margaret Pless-Hunter with whom he shared their wonderful family and a beautiful friendship. He will truly be missed.
He was preceded in death by his mom, Cleo Pless, father (Fred Pless), brothers, Mathew Pless, Joseph Wilson and Jimmy Wilson of Los Angeles, CA; and JG Wilson of Las Vegas, Nevada; and sister Doris Brown of Denver, Colorado. Albert leaves to cherish memories, his two daughters Michelle Pless Joseph of Hyde Park, MA; and Elika Brown Lomax of Roslindale, MA; one son Albert W. Pless Jr. of Winchester, MA; two sisters Freda Mansfield of Stockton, CA; and Juanita l. Givens of Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren Elias and Hannah Joseph, Zoe, Zachary, and Zahara Pless, Samuel Lomax; and Nathan Mahabir, Ethan and Ella Thomas, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
