Wilfred M. Lawrence Jr. was born on November 29th, 1928, in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Wilfred A. and Rose Duley (James) Lawrence.     Wilfred aka "Willie" was the oldest of his twin siblings, the late Rufus Lawrence and Isabelle Harleston of Kennesaw, Georgia.     Wilfred (Willie) was educated in the Boston Public School system & graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School in 1946.  

  In 1948, Willie joined the National Guard.  He was a prominent veteran who proudly served in the historically segregated 272nd Field Artillery Battalion. The 272nd Field Artillery Battalion (fondly known as "The Deuce") holds deep historical significance as one of the last all – African American U.S, Army units.  He served as a Sergeant and was Honorably Discharged in 1952.     December 31st,1950, Willie married Ruth Garvin and two children were born to this marriage, Paula & Darrell Lawrence.     Willie was employed by Wolff Fording & Co, a US based designer & manufacturer of dance costumes, ballet wear, & theatrical apparel.  

  In 1957, Willie was hired by the MBTA.  He held numerous positions from Bus Operator, Starter and the first Black Supervisor in Management.  Willie was responsible for setup and distribution of Uniforms to Bus Operators.  He retired in 1992, out of the Executive Branch of the MBTA.  It has been said that he was the oldest living retiree from the MBTA.  

  Willie became a Lifelong Member of the Prince Hall Rising Sun Lodge #3. In addition to his membership with the Knights Templar & the Shriners Syrian Temple #31.  

  He was instrumental in facilitating and orchestrating the highly successful "Over the Hill Gang" Dances.  

  Willie was known as a "Class Act", he always dressed sharp, buttoned up!  Willie was known to be a "Ladies Man" he had a love for dancing, jazz music, casinos, storytelling and a good laugh.     Willie was the beloved husband of the late Ruth Garvin and Naomi Link Lawrence.  

  He is survived by his beloved companion Marilyn Flowers Marion, his sister Isabelle Harleston, his devoted caretaker son Darrell & daughter Paula.     He also leaves his nephew Robert (wife) Donna Harleston, and their children great niece Lydia, great nephew Phillip and his son Garrett.  Nephews Stanley & Brian Lawrence and great niece Remy Lawrence and his great great late nephew Tyler Lawrence.     In addition to his beloved "Kitty Kat," and a host of extended family members, friends & neighbors.     We leave you with this:  There's no right way, there's no wrong way, there's only the "Willie Way"!  Rest in Peace Dad!
