It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Virine Elaine Morris, a cherished daughter, devoted friend, and beloved member of the Hyde Park community. Born in Jamaica, West Indies, Virine was the daughter of Desrene Philips (née Francis) and the late Castel Morris.

A graduate of UMass Boston, Virine was an accomplished opera singer and a proud member of the Black Nativity Group of Boston. Her powerful voice and gracious presence inspired many. She was a passionate advocate for cultural preservation and civic engagement, lending her talents and energy to the Jamaica Development and Culture Group of Boston and the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization.

Virine was a faithful member of Hyde Park Presbyterian Church, where she served dutifully as the church's bookkeeper and office manager. she also tutored in the church's after-school program in the past. She was known for her consistent presence at community meetings, always advocating for positive change and unity. She was also a Boston poll worker for many years.

She leaves behind her loving mother Desrene Philips, her paternal siblings, aunts, uncles, a host of cousins and extended family and friends, who will forever cherish her memory, her warmth, and her unwavering commitment to the service of others.

Virine's life was a melody of strength, humility, and compassion. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit lives on in all the hearts she's touched!
